impact pillar

Job Creation

It is the provision of new opportunities for paid employment, especially for those who are unemployed in rural areas of emerging countries where youth represent 37% of the labor force but account for 60% of total unemployment.

How it is achieved

New technologies break traditional employment barriers, enabling rural connectivity, digital training, and payment via digital channels. OKO capitalizes on this trend, empowering rural youth to become representatives, providing tools, training, and direct mobile wallet remuneration, offering additional or primary income sources for those distant from employment centers.
OKO received the Job Creation Prize at the 2019 Seedstars summit.

Climate Resilience

Defined as the ability to maintain function in the face of external stresses imposed by climate change. For a farmer, it means being able to recover after suffering an adverse season, and avoiding being immediately in a case of financial distress.

How it is achieved

Climate resilience can be achieved through various means like crop diversification or irrigation. However, these solutions often involve significant investments and changes. OKO’s insurance offers immediate financial support to farmers facing adverse weather, helping them repay loans, sustain their livelihoods, and prepare for the next season.
OKO was selected to be part of the USAID Climate Finance for Development Accelerator
